Professor Hans-Jürgen Burchardt receives prestigious research award

On July 8th.2025, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Burchardt was awarded the prestigious Argentine Leloir Research Prize. Named after biochemist and Nobel laureate Luis Federico Leloir, the prize is one of the highest honors granted to international scholars for their outstanding contributions to Argentine science, the promotion of young researchers, and scientific cooperation. The award was presented during an international ceremony attended by numerous guests and fellow laureates from New York, London, Rome, Copenhagen, and Sydney.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Burchardt emphasized: “We need a new global understanding to overcome the destructive apathy toward the climate crisis — a vision nourished by researchers who reconcile the old and the new, focusing on knowledge, transformation, and solutions. Natural and technical sciences are essential for this, but there will be no solutions without the social sciences and humanities. Supporting science is the most important investment in the future. That is why I remain committed to continuing my collaboration with Argentine science and to helping build a future horizon for us all.”
Prof. Burchardt leads numerous international cooperation and research projects with Argentina and Latin America at the University of Kassel.
