The 33rd Havana International Book Fair (FILH) opened its doors in February 2025. In this inspiring setting, the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS), its CALAS professorship in Havana, and the Extractivism.de project network at the University of Kassel presented a selection of their latest publications.

CALAS and Extractivism.de were represented at two venues at FILH 2025: the University of Havana and the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. Among the works presented were “Las crisis en el desarrollo económico de Cuba” and “De la sustentabilidad al desarrollo? Entre el extractivismo verde y la transformación socioambiental”. Upcoming publications were also presented, including the Spanish edition of “The Political Economy of Elites in Latin America” at Routledge and “Planificar el Archipiélago: hacia una ontología urbano-rural”, a work that will emerge from the recent CALAS professorship in Havana.

With their participation, CALAS and Extractivism.de reaffirm their commitment to promoting critical reflection and interdisciplinary and interregional dialogue in Cuba on the region’s pressing challenges.
